On June 7, the Province announced that Sherri Young will lead the new Office of the Superintendent of Health Professions and Occupations Oversight. This office will audit and oversee all the health colleges in BC to ensure they are acting in the public interest, make recommendations for board appointments and assess health professions to determine if they should be regulated.
The superintendent will also work to ensure that the changes made to the Health Professions and Occupations Act (HPOA) incorporate key recommendations from the 2020 In Plain Sight Report.
The HPOA received royal assent in the BC Legislative Assembly on November 24, 2022. While the legislation has passed, it is not yet in force. Learn more about the new legislation >>
