The BC Dental Association (BCDA) has informed BCCOHP that its X-Ray Inspection Program is discontinued as a member service as of May 31.
This update is being shared for information. The end of this program does not affect any BCCOHP requirements for oral health professionals. If you have questions about the discontinuation of the BCDA program, please contact BCDA directly.
Oral health professionals are responsible for ensuring that the environments in which they provide oral health care meet relevant legal and regulatory requirements. Dentists or dental hygiene practitioners who own or lease radiation equipment are reminded that WorkSafeBC is the regulatory authority for radiation protection in British Columbia.
BCCOHP expects compliance with Radiation Protection in Dentistry – Safety Code 30 (Health Canada), which includes maintaining regular radiation protection surveys with WorkSafeBC. Page 50 of the safety code states that:
“Facilities should contact the applicable regulatory authority to establish the survey schedule. If a survey frequency is not set by the responsible regulatory authority, surveys may be conducted every three years.”
Please contact WorkSafeBC to confirm your survey schedule and for guidance on maintaining compliance or with any questions.
