Territorial acknowledgement

BCCOHP’s work spans the territories of more than 200 distinct First Nations in what is colonially known as British Columbia. We recognize these Nations as rights holders, each with their own governance, laws, cultures and enduring connections to their lands. We also acknowledge First Nations, Métis and Inuit Peoples living away from their home territories, each with distinct histories, rights and contributions. Our work occurs within systems that have caused, and continue to cause, harm to Indigenous Peoples. We are committed to addressing these harms, upholding Indigenous rights and advancing reconciliation through the regulation of oral health care. We honour First Nations, Métis and Inuit Peoples as knowledge holders, leaders, caregivers and advocates, and recognize their ongoing leadership in advancing health and healing despite the impacts of colonialism and systemic inequity.
