Dental Hygienist Licence Resources

Only licensed dental hygienists of the British Columbia College of Oral Health Professionals are licensed to practice dental hygiene in BC.

Reinstatement to practising – Less than 60 days.  

If your licence was not renewed at annual renewal and it has been less than 60 days and you wish to reinstate, please complete the annual renewal form by logging into your BCCOHP account.  

Reinstatement from former dental hygienist – More than 60 days  

If your licence was not renewed at annual renewal and it has been more than 60 days and you wish to reinstate you must:  

  1. complete the Application Package for Reinstatement 
  2. pay the applicable reinstatement fees  

If it has been more than three years since you became a former licensee, the above reinstatement application does not apply to you, and you will have to re-apply for a new dental hygienist licence. Please contact us for further information.  

Dental hygienists who are currently licensed or registered from outside of BC may be eligible for BCCOHP licence.  

Labour Mobility 

Dental hygienists licensed or registered in another Canadian jurisdiction recognized under the Canadian Free Trade Agreement (CFTA), are eligible to apply for licence to practice in BC. For more information on the application process, please refer to our website here. 

Certificate of Standing 

If you are currently or have previously been licensed or registered in another Canadian jurisdiction, BCCOHP requires a Certificate of Standing from that jurisdiction for your application for dental hygienist licence. 

The Certificate of Standing is valid for up to 60 days from the date that it was signed. If you do not have your licensing process completed within the 60 days, a new Certificate will be required.

If you are applying for a licence in BC and are currently or have previously been licensed or registered with another regulator or licensing body, BCCOHP requires a Certificate/Letter of Standing from that regulator or licensing body. 

The Certificate/Letter of Standing is valid for up to 60 days from the date that it was signed. If you do not have your licensing process completed within 60 days, a new Certificate/Letter will be required. 

Contact the regulatory/licensing body you are going to as you may need a Certificate or Letter of Standing from BCCOHP. 

If you would like to request our office to provide certificates or letters of standing to other jurisdictions, the consent for release of information form can be found here. You may submit your completed form via our contact form. There is an administrative fee of $79.00. You will be notified to make payment via email when ready. 

Please allow up to 20  business days for processing.  

Note: we send your Certificate/Letter of Standing directly to the organization you have on the form unless otherwise requested. 

Applicants who graduated from a dental hygiene diploma or degree program not accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada (CDAC) or the Commission of Dental Accreditation (CODA), and are not currently licensed as a practising dental hygienist in another Canadian jurisdiction, must successfully complete the Canadian Performance Exam in Dental Hygiene (CPEDH) offered by the Federation of Dental Hygiene Regulators of Canada (FDHRC). You can update your address, phone number, email address or any other contact information online by logging into your account. ​ 

Name change 

If you’ve changed your name, please submit your name change request in writing, along with a copy of your legal name document or marriage certificate, to the College via our contact form or mail.
