Building on our recent email about the British Columbia College of Oral Health Professionals’ (BCCOHP) modernization initiatives, this is an update for oral health professionals about a recent decision in the standards development project.
On September 5, 2024, the BCCOHP Board resolved to rescind a suite of seven legacy college practice resource documents. Details of the documents rescinded are provided below.

Legacy College Practice Resources
Modernizing core regulatory functions and establishing patient-centred standards for all oral health professionals is a strategic focus for BCCOHP. Work is in progress to develop one modernized set of standards for oral health professionals.
All existing practice resources were ported over to BCCOHP from the legacy oral health colleges upon amalgamation on September 1, 2022.
As we work to create new BCCOHP standards, these resources are currently being reviewed by the Standards and Guidance Committee to assess suitability for inclusion in the new standards suite. Where there are questions of statutory alignment with current Ministry of Health regulations and BCCOHP Bylaws, documents are recommended for further consideration by the BCCOHP Board, and temporarily removed from the BCCOHP website. Should the Board subsequently resolve to rescind the documents, they will be permanently removed. Most recently, at its September 5 meeting, the Board determined to rescind seven documents presented for consideration.
Eventually, all legacy practice resources will be rescinded and replaced by new BCCOHP standards that apply to all regulated oral health professionals.
During this transition, BCCOHP will provide ongoing communication to ensure that oral health professionals have access to the most up-to-date information about practice resources.
