Proposed BCCOHP bylaws consultation

BCCOHP launched a consultation on Monday, September 8 to gather feedback on a set of proposed bylaws developed to align with the upcoming Health Professions and Occupations Act (HPOA).

The HPOA will come into force on April 1, 2026, and all health regulators in BC are required to develop new bylaws to ensure compliance.

The consultation will remain open until October 31, 2025. We encourage you to share your thoughts during this time.

About the proposed bylaws

The proposed bylaws define how BCCOHP will be structured and governed once the HPOA comes fully into force. They also outline how we will uphold our legal responsibility to protect patients and the public by regulating oral health professionals in BC.

About the consultation

BCCOHP is reaching out to audiences who may be interested in or have feedback on the proposed bylaws. This includes oral health professionals, members of the public and other interested audiences.

To make it easier to participate, feedback can be submitted broadly (via a single feedback form), or in focused “parts” (separate forms for each proposed bylaw part—for example: Licences, Certification and Board). This way, you can provide feedback on the sections that are most relevant to you, or on the proposed bylaws in general.

Note: We are not seeking feedback on the HPOA itself. The HPOA is government legislation, and any comments about it should be directed to the provincial government. Learn more here >>

About the Health Professions and Occupations Act

Health regulatory colleges in BC are currently governed by the Health Professions Act (HPA). To help modernize health regulation in BC, the government passed the Health Professions and Occupations Act, which will replace the current Health Professions Act on April 1, 2026.
