BCCOHP’s mandate is to protect the public, and a key part of this work is setting clear expectations for safe, patient-centered oral health care.
BCCOHP’s unified Professional Standards for the Oral Health Team are currently in effect for all oral health professionals. These comprehensive new standards outline the minimum expectations for ethical conduct, performance and professional behaviour for all oral health professionals in BC. They are designed to support professional accountability and help ensure consistent, competent care across the professions.

Note: Work is ongoing to develop updated Practice Standards, which are additional requirements for high-risk areas of oral health care, such as sedation and infection prevention and control. Learn more about this work on our Standards Project webpage >>
