One of the foundational ways that BCCOHP protects the public is by setting standards for the delivery of safe and patient-centred oral health care.
Oral health professionals must meet ethical and practice requirements for the delivery of safe and competent oral health care. They are accountable and responsible for understanding and interpreting any limits or conditions that might appear in Ministry Regulations and BCCOHP Bylaws regarding restricted titles and scope of practice.
Have questions related to practice or defined restricted activities? Please reach out to BCCOHP’s Professional Practice team.
BCCOHP’s Standards for the Oral Health Team are in effect for all oral health professionals. Explore the resources under the “Standards and Practice Resources” section on this page to learn more.
We have translated the standards into the five most commonly spoken languages in BC other than English to support greater accessibility and understanding. These include Chinese (simplified and traditional), French, Punjabi and Spanish. Although care has been taken to ensure the accuracy of the translations, they may not fully reflect the original and/or revised content and may contain inadvertent errors or omission. In all cases, the original English version remains the official and authoritative text.
Eventually, all legacy practice resources will be rescinded and replaced by new BCCOHP standards that apply to all regulated oral health professionals. Learn more and review the inventory of documents replaced by these new standards here>>
Practice standards and resources include requirements and additional information for adjunctive aspects of practice. While BCCOHP is in the process of rescinding and replacing all legacy practice resources, certain legacy documents remain applicable. Click through by profession to access applicable resources.
