Dr. Ara Elmajian is a full dentist registrant with BCCOHP.
Background
On October 28, 2019, the legacy College of Dental Surgeons of BC* received a complaint regarding Dr. Elmajian’s practice and investigated the complaint. On August 17, 2022, the Inquiry Committee met and directed the Registrar to issue a citation under section 37 of the Health Professions Act (HPA). The citation was issued by BCCOHP on March 7, 2025.
A discipline hearing for Dr. Elmajian was scheduled to begin on February 17, 2026, but was resolved on January 29, 2026, by Dr. Elmajian signing a Consent Order Proposal that was accepted by the Inquiry Committee.
Admissions
Dr. Elmajian has admitted that he committed professional misconduct in that he:
- Asked or allowed an employee to provide treatment to a patient they were not adequately qualified and/or trained to provide.
- Provided various pain management treatments to patients which were outside of his scope of practice, over various areas of the body.
- During the investigation into this matter, he sent correspondence to the complainant regarding their complaint to BCCOHP which was inappropriate and/or intimidating.
Resolution
After a review of the concerns identified in BCCOHP’s investigation, Dr. Elmajian’s admissions, and the remedial actions proposed, the Inquiry Committee accepted Dr. Elmajian’s Proposal on January 29, 2026, and ordered as follows:
- Dr. Elmajian is reprimanded.
- Dr. Elmajian will not practice outside of his scope of practice as a dentist, meaning:
- He will not provide services outside of the definition of dentistry in the Dentists Regulation.
- He will not provide treatment to any part of the body outside of the teeth; oral mucosa (lining inside the mouth including gums, cheeks, tongue, palate); skeletal structures (jaw and facial bones); and other soft tissues in and around the mouth and face (muscles, blood vessels, nerves, lymphatics, and salivary glands). Although not strictly part of the orofacial complex, Dr. Elmajian may treat the neck, including the sternocleidomastoid and trapezius muscles, in the treatment of temporomandibular disorder.
- The treatments Dr. Elmajian will not provide include but are not limited to the following:
- Myofascial therapy, including trigger point injections, manual palpation, and/or injection of procaine, lidocaine, and/or homeopathic remedies into the body, to any area outside of the orofacial complex;
- Neural therapy, to any area outside of the orofacial complex;
- Osteopathic treatment, to any area outside of the orofacial complex;
- IV nutritional therapy;
- Prolotherapy, to any area outside of the orofacial complex;
- Cranial sacral therapy, to any area outside of the orofacial complex;
- PRF and PRP therapy, to any area outside of the orofacial complex; and
- Diagnosis and treatment of Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome/Chronic Pain Syndrome, to any area outside of the orofacial complex.
- Dr. Elmajian will not attempt to influence any person who has made a complaint about him.
- Dr. Elmajian will complete a specified professional boundaries educational course by no later than July 29, 2026.
- Dr. Elmajian must pay the partial costs of the investigation of $4,000 by February 28, 2026.
- Dr. Elmajian must pay a fine of $15,000 by February 28, 2026.
