The 2025 BC College of Oral Health Professionals Annual Meeting was held Monday, October 6 via Zoom. Thank you to everyone who attended.

This meeting reflected on a year of acceleration and momentum as we advanced our work to build a modern, responsive regulator. As our final annual meeting under the Health Professions Act, we also looked ahead to the transition to the Health Professions and Occupations Act, which comes fully into force in 2026.

Highlights included:

      • Welcome and closing from Jenn Smith, Indigenous Cultural Safety Educator from the Tlowitsis Nation
        • Jenn opened the meeting in a good way, welcoming attendees and reflecting on the significance of BCCOHP’s ongoing commitment to cultural safety, both the progress made over the past year and the important work that lies ahead.

      • An address from the Board, presented by Public Board Member Julie Akeroyd
        • Julie shared remarks on behalf of Board Chair Carl Roy and reflected on the progress made under the current legislation and discussed the preparation for the transition to the Health Professions and Occupations Act in 2026. Julie also discussed the advancements across BCCOHP’s four strategic priorities, as well as celebrated the launch of the unified Professional Standards for the Oral Health Team.

      • Presentation of the auditor’s report from Jeff Welwood, Audit Partner at KPMG
        • Jeff presented the auditor’s report, confirming that KPMG obtained reasonable assurance that BCCOHP’s audited financial statements for the 2024–25 fiscal year are fairly presented.

      • A report from CEO/Registrar Chris Hacker
        • Chris reflected on a year of momentum and preparation as BCCOHP transitions to the Health Professions and Occupations Act in 2026. He shared progress midway through the 2024–27 Strategic Plan, highlighting advances in regulatory leadership, cultural safety, health equity and modernization. He emphasized BCCOHP’s continued commitment to transparency, engagement and protecting the public through this next chapter of regulation.

      • A Q&A period
        • We appreciated the strong engagement during the question period and regret that we could not address every question that came in. We noted that Quality Assurance and the upcoming transition to the HPOA were common themes, and are triaging the questions internally to ensure that the relevant staff are aware of what was raised at the meeting. More detailed information will be shared on these topics of interest as this work continues to progress. If you have an outstanding question, you’re always welcome to submit it through our contact form. BCCOHP also has profession-specific Practice Advisors who can provide guidance on regulatory requirements and related matters. When you submit a query, it will be directed to the appropriate advisor for your profession.
