One of the three main ways BCCOHP protects the public is by ensuring that all regulated oral health professionals are supported in the provision of safe oral health care throughout their careers. This work is carried out through our Quality Assurance Program (QAP).
BCCOHP is establishing a single, modernized QAP for all oral health professionals. The program will be implemented in April 2026. A detailed introduction to the new QAP is below. All pre-existing program requirements and assessments ended on December 31, 2025. Information to support oral health professionals in this transition period is available at the links below:
We are pleased to share a more detailed introduction to BCCOHP’s modernized Quality Assurance Program (QAP), which is replacing the pre-existing programs for all six oral health professions in BC in April 2026.
The modernized program is designed to support ongoing competence of oral health professionals through:
The components of the program work together to create a clear, supportive and proportionate approach to ongoing competence.

A detailed set of questions and answers about the modernized QAP is being maintained here. Last updated February 25, 2026.
Pre-existing programs were retired as of December 31, 2025.
For those whose QA cycle ended December 31, 2025, any outstanding requirements from the pre-existing programs must be completed and submitted by March 31, 2026, in order to renew with BCCOHP by the annual deadline. Refer here for more information about winding down the pre-existing programs.
While no other action is required at this time, oral health professionals may wish to revisit BCCOHP’s Standards as a practical way to stay current and aligned with the expectations that support the modernized QAP.
Under the modernized Quality Assurance Program (QAP), registrants will still be expected to engage in ongoing professional learning. Although the program is no longer based on reporting a set number of credits or hours, the expectation to participate in meaningful learning remains the same.
Although reporting of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is not required between January and April 2026, oral health professionals should keep records of any CPD completed between January 1 and March 31, 2026, as it may be connected to your learning goals in the modernized QAP when it launches.
Within the new program, oral health professionals will reflect on the Professional Standards for the Oral Health Team while identifying goals for ongoing professional learning. From there, the program provides flexibility to use your professional judgment to choose learning that is most relevant to your practice and to determine the type and amount needed to maintain competence. Oral health professionals are encouraged to continue engaging in professional development that:
Professional Standard 2.7 requires oral health professionals to maintain current knowledge, skills, and abilities. To meet this standard, you must demonstrate that:
We will continue to share updates as we move closer to the launch of the program. More details about the rollout timeline are contained at the end of the design overview here >>
