BCCOHP’s committees are established by the Board and filled by the Nomination and Appointment Committee. Currently at BCCOHP, we have 10 committees organized into three types: regulatory, professional standards and Board committees.*
Committee membership includes public members and oral health professionals. Our committees are comprised of individuals who reflect the importance of diversity, gender equality, professional experience, knowledge and skill.
*Note that this committee structure will change when government repeals the Health Professions Act (HPA) and replaces it with the Health Professions and Occupations Act (HPOA).
Do you want to participate in decisions that will help reimagine oral health care oversight and improve health outcomes for oral health patients in BC? If yes, we invite you to submit an application to join one of our committees.
This leadership opportunity is open to oral health professionals and members of the public. The opportunity to apply will remain open until midnight on Sunday, February 2.
The Nomination and Appointment Committee that oversees the committee member recruitment process encourages applications from individuals who identify as Indigenous. BCCOHP has a strategic priority to incorporate meaningful Indigenous involvement in decision-making, and to adopt practices that uphold anti-racism, cultural safety and humility.
All board and committee members who identify as Indigenous have the opportunity to participate in a supportive Community of Practice that is led by and for Indigenous people.
If you’re passionate about safe and ethical oral health care, and you’d like to contribute to our work of protecting the public, you should consider applying.
The terms of reference for each committee lists the desired competencies. In addition, the Nomination and Appointment Committee has identified areas of expertise that are particularly relevant for public committee members, such as finance, human resources and education.
The Nomination and Appointment Committee encourages applications from individuals who self-identify as Indigenous.
This is a broad call for committee applications. You will have the opportunity to indicate which ones meet your skills and interests. Any eligible applicants not selected for committees during this current round of openings may be added to our roster for future opportunities.
BCCOHP’s committee structure will change when government repeals the Health Professions Act (HPA) and replaces it with the Health Professions and Occupations Act (HPOA).
Committee and working group membership can require a significant time commitment. The time commitment is dependent on the committee and its current workload.
Committee members are compensated in keeping with our Board, Committee and Working Group Remuneration and Expense Policy (PDF).
You’ll need about 30-45 minutes to respond to the questions in the application form.
Before starting the online application process, please make sure to read the Guide for Committee and Working Group Members (PDF), the Committee Terms of Reference and the Eligibility Policy (PDF).
A completed application form and resumé must be submitted to committees@oralhealthbc.ca no later than midnight on Sunday, February 2, 2025.
The Nomination & Appointment Committee will review and seek to fill the available positions on each committee based on each applicant’s skills, knowledge, experience and area of interest. The final membership lists will then be submitted for Board approval in early March.
New committee terms will begin on April 1, 2025.
Candidates who are being considered for a committee membership appointment will be asked to complete a Declaration of Interests form (PDF) before their appointment is confirmed.
Applicants who were not selected for committees during this current round of openings may be added to the roster for future opportunities.
Note: We thank all applicants for their interest in serving on a BCCOHP committee. To ensure that your application moves forward, please ensure it is complete and submitted prior to the deadline, as we are unable to follow up on incomplete applications. If you have questions, please email committees@oralhealthbc.ca prior to the deadline. Applicants who have been selected to move forward in the process will be notified in February.
Committee term lengths are subject to change should government enact the Health Professions and Occupations Act (HPOA) prior to the term end date. For more information, please visit the Superintendent’s website or the Ministry of Health Professional Regulation Website.
