Reinstatements completed within 60 days of the renewal deadline can be completed online by logging into your account, completing the online form and paying the applicable fees.

More information about reinstating your licence and returning to practice can be found on this page. Select the appropriate oral health professional type and then click “Resources.”
The BC Ministry of Health has passed new legislation to modernize the way health professions are regulated. On April 1, 2026, the Health Professions and Occupations Act (HPOA) is set to replace the current Health Professions Act (HPA) as the legislative framework governing health professions in British Columbia. In accordance with the HPOA, BC health regulators will move from a registration model to a licensure model.
The BCCOHP bylaws were updated in compliance with the requirements of the HPOA when it is fully brought into force.
For more information, please visit our Health and Professions and Occupations Act page >>
Effective April 1, 2026, the classes of registrations or certifications that are impacted are:
Information regarding these licence class changes was emailed to affected oral health professionals in December 2025 and January 2026. Learn more here >>
In accordance with the HPOA, BC health regulators are moving from a registration model to a licensure model. Under the HPOA, licence means a licence issued or renewed and licensee means a person who holds a licence. Registration and certification are no longer applicable, therefore those regulated by BCCOHP will be known as licensees and not registrants or certified.

The criminal record check fee is $28 and there is a mandatory re-check for criminal records every five years. This is the amount charged by the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General, not BCCOHP, to complete a criminal record check. BCCOHP collects one fifth of the CRC fee ($5.60) each year at annual renewal. On the fifth year when your re-check is due, your criminal record check will be automatically resent to the government.
Although BCCOHP will be sending your criminal record check to the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General on your behalf, you are responsible for providing information requested by the Ministry, including fingerprints and adjudication.
If the Ministry requires additional information, they will contact you directly.
If you are not planning to practise effective April 1, you can choose the “resign from register” option. This will notify BCCOHP that you wish to stop holding practising licence effective April 1. As of April 1, you will become a former licensee.
If you are planning to resign and will not practise before the new fiscal year starts on April 1, please contact the Registration & Certification Department via the contact form.

Yes, the use of oral lorazepam (e.g., Ativan) is considered minimal sedation. Minimal sedation is defined as a single oral sedative (within MRD) with or without nitrous oxide/oxygen or nitrous oxide/oxygen alone.
This question refers specifically to dentists. If you do not personally provide sedation services, please select “no” in response to this question.
Dentists are not required to apply for a separate licence and facility permit to administer minimal sedation. Currently, dentists may provide minimal sedation as long as they are in full compliance with the Minimal and Moderate Sedation Services in Dentistry Standards & Guidelines.
Facility owners must inform BCCOHP and complete initial compliance assessment if they provide moderate sedation services in their facility. While assessment is ongoing, dentists may provide moderate sedation as long as they are in full compliance with the Minimal and Moderate Sedation Services in Dentistry Standards & Guidelines, unless directed otherwise.
If you intend to provide moderate sedation in your facility, please get in touch with us using our contact form with the following information:
