Setting standards for the delivery of safe, patient-centred oral health care in British Columbia is one of the main ways the BC College of Oral Health Professionals (BCCOHP) protects the public as we work to regulate 16,000 oral health professionals across the province.
With the oversight of the Standards and Guidance Committee, work has been underway to develop one set of cohesive professional standards that support the delivery of safe care by the oral health team. These Draft Professional Standards for the Oral Health Team are central to BCCOHP’s overall standards framework, and set the minimum requirements for oral health professionals’ ethical and professional performance, conduct and behaviour.

We have prioritized cultural safety, humility, health equity and anti-discrimination throughout this development process. These principles are foundational to our commitment to uphold Indigenous rights, promote reconciliation and prevent harm and discrimination in the regulation and delivery of oral health care.
